Built at the the end of the 12th century, the Bayon is a 3-storey high mountain temple made of sandstone and laterite located at 
the heart of the city. The giant sculpted faces represent Jayavarman VII in his divine state. The faces are looking to the 
four cardinal points. While the Bayon’s charms are often credited 
to the gracious faces, the temple is also famed for the profusion
of bas-reliefs depicting scenes from everyday life.
