version of the classic novel set in 1872 focuses on Passepartout (Chan),
a Chinese thief who steals a valuable jade Buddha and then seeks refuge
in the traveling companionship of an eccentric London inventor and adventurer,
Phileas Fogg (Coogan), who has taken on a bet with members of his gentlemens'
club that he can make it around the world in a mere 80 days, using a variety
of means of transportation, like boats, trains, balloons, elephants, etc.
Along the way, Passepartout uses his amazing martial arts abilities to
defend Fogg from the many dangers they face. One major threat to their
adventure is a detective that's following them. Why? Just as Fogg and Passeportout
left London, a major bank was robbed, with Fogg suspected of using the
"around the world" trip as an excuse to escape. Their path from London
and back includes stops in Paris, Turkey, India, China and the United States

Times “Despite its contemporary touches Around the World in 80 Days
is a satisfying slice of old-fashioned storybook entertainment”
“...both Chan and the movie should have stayed at home. Savvier ticket
buyers will do the same.”
Reporter “...the film meanders between lackluster fights and overly
broad comedy, some embarrassingly bad.”
Chronicle “... a delightful surprise. What could have been a slapdash
remake is a complete re-imagining of the story...”
television adaptation of the Jules Verne novel, set in the late 19th Century.
An Englishman named Phileas Fogg makes a bet that, using all the modern
forms of transportation, he can travel around the world in 80 days. He
and his sidekick begin their voyage in a hot-air balloon, and make their
way through Europe and on to India, where they save a widow from committing
suttee (killing herself in her husband's funeral pyre). Then they travel
by train in America and by ship across the Pacific. Phileas and his companion
finally complete the loop, but he believes they have arrived just a little
too late to win their bet.
