Oslo Maritime Museums > The Vikingskipshuset at Bigdøy presents the best preserved  Viking ship ever found. The ships were placed in burial mounds  more than 1100 years ago to carry their royal owners to  the « other world ». The Kon-Tiki Museet presents the original vessels from Thor Heyerdahl’s many expeditions, especially the famous Kon-Tiki raft from 1947 and the papyrus Ra II from 1970. The entire original Arctic exploration ship Fram, built in 1892, is exhibited in this museum. The ship was used for three expeditions by Fridtjof Nansen, Otto Sverdrup and Roald Amundsen to explore the arctic continent.  Another arctic ship of Roald Amundsen,  the Gjøa, is exhibited outside. But it’s possible to see beautiful modern sail boat  in the docks of Oslo too….
